You sun burn twice as fast in Tahoe! WEAR SUNSCREEN

Did you know that you are over a mile and a half closer to the sun when you're in Lake Tahoe and consequently burn almost twice as fast?  It pays to wear the right sunscreen when you're playing up here.

Go for a waterproof liquid or cream sunscreen with broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection and an SPF of at least 30 (preferably 50+).

Re-apply liberally and often!  Don't trust your body to tell you when you need more, Tahoe is known for its "sneaky sunburns" -- Just because there's a low temperature and a lake breeze dosn't mean you're not getting burnt to a crisp.

Fallen Leaf Lake day trip guide

Fallen Leaf Lake is a great day trip from Lake Tahoe. It's a glacial lake about 3 miles long and 1mile wide wedged between Mt. Tallac, Cathedral Peak, and Laker Tahoe.

It has been the location for Tahoe scenes in many famous movies including "The Bodyguard" starring Whitney Huston and Kevin Costner and "City of Angels" starring Meg Ryan and Nicholas Cage.

It has a full marina and is home to some of the best small lake boating in the Lake Tahoe area as well as a full campground and many historic sites.  It is fed by Glen Alpine stream via the spectacular Glen Alpine waterfall.  Take a 4-wheel drive car and drive carefully as the roads are one-lane and not well maintained but the adventure once you get there is well worth the drive.

Also check out the bonus footage of my dog enjoying Fallen Leaf Lake

Heavenly Gondola maintnance crew

My salute to the brave men who keep the Heavenly gondola running safely...

They climb the ski lift pole and rapell down the wire checking every inch of the wire: That's more than 2.4 miles of sliding down a wire with nothing between you and the ground except a safety harness and your budies on the roof of the next cab. A wire you have to check BECAUSE it just might have worn through carrying 60,000 people up the hill over the winter.

That's 3,500 vertical feet from Heavenly village to the top on this gondola plus these guys have to check another bigger and steeper tramway up the face in California and 96 smaller ski lifts, too, before they can move on to their main job of installing new ones later this summer.

Heavenly Erection Crew: They can get it up!

Dance of the Squirrels!

My dog Throttle loves to watch the squirrels in our backyard... Sometimes large numbers of them come and dance like a scene out of "Fantasia" so I decided to go whole hog and put it to Amilcare Ponchielli's - Dance of the Hours  -- Enjoy

No Photo is Worth Dying for!

When you go out photographing in Lake Tahoe this year remember not to get so wrapped up in taking the perfect photo that you ignore the warning signs, jump the safety rail, lean too far out and don't watch your step.

Remember, nobody can see that perfect picture if your camera is laying in a broken pile under the bottom of the waterfall. Stay safe, everybody.

Welcome to Fabulous Lake Tahoe

I've just spent a year on my YouTube channel, Fabulous Lake Tahoe, and I've found that I often have things that need to be said that go way beyond what I can cover on my channel in video alone.  This blog will be a centralized hub for me to re-post Tahoe themed articles, links, and information I find as well as all my videos from all my different channels and their accompanying text.  Hopefully, this will give you a broader context for what you see on my channel as well as a place for me to give more links and interactivity than I can give on YouTube alone.

Check out my latest video for more information about what I love about youtube and some great reccomendations for other cool channels you might like.
